1933-1950
In 1933, four families came together to start a new church in the rural outskirts of northwest Atlanta. Brought together by a love for Jesus and for one another, it wasn’t long before these families (and those who had joined them) determined to constitute the Piney Grove Baptist Church.
The early members of Piney Grove were passionate about prayer and eager to engage with God’s Word.
Growing in grace and in number, the membership was marked by a spirit of faith and generosity. Members often met outside of official church gatherings in order to share their lives with one another.
1951-1970
In 1959, the church began setting aside specific times for prayer, a practice that continues still today. The men and women of Piney Grove Baptist Church knew that unless the Lord build the house, those who labor labor in vain.
Under the leadership of Godly pastors like Earnest Compton, Marshall Reinhardt, and J.T. Hollingshed (who arrived in 1968), the church continued to grow and make an impact in the community.
1971-1990
Over the course of these two decades, some 275 men, women, boys, and girls came to a saving faith in Jesus as a result of the ministry of Piney Grove Baptist Church.
In 1972, a new building was constructed to accommodate the growth . Additionally, Piney Grove became known in the area as a church committed to raising up men for ministry leadership.
1991-2017
As often happens, growth at Piney Grove soon began to slow. Despite the rapid pace of population increase in the metro-Atlanta area, the church often struggled to connect with new families that were moving into the community.
By 2017, the church was once again without a pastor. While a remnant of faithful men and women remained, mounting challenges led the pulpit committee to pursue a new direction.
2017-Present
On October 15, 2017, Pastor Dallas White was called as the 14th Senior Pastor at Piney Grove Baptist Church. In 2018, after a prolonged season of prayer and fasting, our church was re-launched in the community as The Grove Church.
Since that time, TGC has grown into a vibrant, multi-generational church passionate about helping families flourish.
